Teaching and Learning in the University of Tomorrow

The 2015 serieseries continues the Fall 2014 De Lange Conference that focused on the issues and implications of modern-day teaching and higher education with respect to innovative contexts, technologies, and pedagogy. The Spring Series focuses more specifically on teaching at Rice, asking our Deans about the challenges that each school faces, how technology will speak to those challenges, and how the school can positively impact teaching across the campus and beyond

Peer instruction, the flipped classroom and MOOCs have the potential to help make students more active participants in their own learning. Highly publicized local and national experiments by early adopters of these methods has led to an unprecendented level of dialogue about teaching on campus, at Rice and other institutions of higher education. As a follow-up to the September Scientia panel on "The Traditional Classroom: What Future?" and the October De Lange IX Conference, "Teaching in the University of Tomorrow," this panel discussion will target themes and challenges related to enhancing how studetns learn in our classes at Rice. Our panel of faculty will present their unique pedagogical strategies based on the scholarship and practice of active learning. Please join us for this important conversation.
